God’s Word Is Alive
Luke 21:29-33

The heavens and the earth will pass away, but my words will not pass. v. 33

How permanent are the promises of God! How penetrating is his word! "God’s word is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword. It penetrates and divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the reflections and thoughts of the heart." "Your word is a lamp for my steps, 0 Lord."

MEDITATE ON THE LAW OF THE LORD

The scriptures say, "Meditate on the law of the Lord day and night." Jesus explained the scriptures to us so we might find him within them. "Beginning, then, with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted for them every passage of Scripture which referred to him." Along with the two disciples to whom he spoke this, we can say, "Were not our hearts burning inside us as he talked to us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?"

STIR UP THE SPIRIT WHILE MEDITATING

Does our heart burn when we hear the word of God, or does scripture seem boring and dull? If Scripture does not appear living and effective to us, we are probably trying to read without the action of the Holy Spirit. We must not separate the study of God’s word from the fire of God’s Spirit in our lives. It is the same Spirit that impelled and influenced the prophets. The Spirit guides us into all truth and reminds us of all the words of Jesus. We must "stir into flame" the gift of the Spirit in our life, or as I often say, the Spirit must be "fanned into a full flame." This fire of the Spirit came as tongues of fire upon the first apostles and disciples gathered in the upper room. The best way to stir up the Spirit to teach us inwardly as we meditate on the word of God is to pray in tongues or praise and give thanks.

GRAB HOLD OF WHAT IS ETERNAL

Scriptures say only faith, hope and love will last forever. Everything else will pass away except Jesus’ words. Let our Spirit-led study take us past all else, so we may grab hold of faith, hope and love that last forever.

Amazing that what you write tends to line up with what I'm working through... Scripture and all.

The Holy Spirit really pinned me down recently that I was reading out of a discipline... rather than out of a faith that the Word is living and intentional.

Bless you. I'm glad I stumbled onto this blog.
